Le Cascine Florence
Florence, the capital of Tuscany and the city where the European Renaissance began is always revered by travelers for its great museums of splendid artistic gems, architectural marvels and a cultural heritage, but for a first –timer on his Florence holiday the magnificent cityscape and landscaped gardens throughout the city offer some splendid and unforgettable charm.
The city of Florence has many parks and green places with open air sculptures, but nothing can be as memorable as a long walk inside the Le Cascine Florence, the biggest park of Florence. The Italian summer is famous for its scintillating freshness and comfortable weather and spending a few hours in the lush green landscape of the park. In a sunny morning over the sprawling smooth velvet of green with rows of long tresses on the sidewalk lining the Arno River is sure to mesmerize you with its surreal scenic splendor and beauty.
Direction and Location
The open lush green space past the Ponte Della Vittoria is Le Cascine Park. Le Cascine Florence is best accessible from central Florence and if you are on a sightseeing tour you do not need to go much further to get into this park. Normally people on their Florence holidays spend their leisurely time amidst this sprawling greenery or prefer to have a brisk walk through the green cover. The stretch of greenery goes along the Arno River and if you are close to the city center you can enter the place from the bridge on Ponte Vecchio. The covered bridge is lined by some shops as you enter the park. There are two more bridges over the Arno River connecting the park.
For a brisk walk or short run or jog you can choose to go along the long stretch lining the river or can do the same inside the park, but the stretch beside the river is the longest and most scenic. This long stretch of walkway is endowed with a gravel path, asphalt path and even a dirt path to choose from. There are many bridges over the river to add a little variety to the picturesque visual. One of the major attractions of the park is the flea market that runs inside the park every Tuesday from 7.00 am to 2.00 pm. It is equally a favorite market for the local Florentines and tourists on a Florence holiday. From fruits, vegetables, house ware to antiques to shoes, for anything you need or just to explore as a tourist, it is the place to be.
How to get there?
As we have already said the park is located centrally and can be reached by a short walk from the city center or major attractions in the city. If you are keen on avoiding a walk up to the park, take a tram from the Santa Maria Novella Station and get off at Cascine station.
